The tribal members were also very proud of hime because he proved that he was very powerful and brave so the tribal members made Sitting Bull chief. While Sitting Bull was chief white men came and invaded his tribe. All the tribal members fought against white men. Every time the tribe succeeded in beating the white men. but one day Sitting Bull was captured by the white men (the Europeans). After two years Sitting Bull was released from the Europeans and when he came back to his tribe most of them were killed or very sick because all the white men brought over these illnesses with them. While Sitting Bull was gone to Wavoca, a member of the tribe had a dream that they could bring back all the people that had died. The tribal members did a dance to bring back the dead and it scared all the white men and they had a battle. In the battle Sitting Bull was killed.

Sequoyah by Rachael Looney age 12.

Sequoyah's mother was a Cherokee and his father was a white trader. Sequoyah lived with his mother in the Smokey mountains of Tennesse. One day when Sequoyah went to trade he saw a silversmith and he brought some tools home to make silver. He made some knives, spoons and jewellery. He was very good at shaping silver. Sequoyah had a dream to write down every word in the Cherokee langauge . Sequoyah moved from town to town until he finally settled down in Alabama. Sequoyah married a Cherokee woman. When he was walking in the forest with his daughter he noticed that some of the sound the birds made sounded like the Cherokee words. Sequoyah made 86 symbols for the Cherokee alphabet. He wanted to make an easier way to write. One day when finally Sequoyah's house was full of symbols his house was burnt while he was walking in the forest with his daughter. In the forest he met a Cherokee woman named Sally. Sally believed in Sequoyah's dream. When Sequoyah went home he saw that his house was burned down and he knew it was time to leave Alabama. Sequoyah showed the Cherokee council his alphabet, they did not believe him. Every indian and Cherokee wanted to write. Once everyone knew how to write they started up a newspaper called Cherokee Phoenix. Sequoyah got a medal with two pipes on it symbolising that he brought people together.
